A Diner with a Story Worth Sharing

A Diner with a Story Worth Sharing

Mattie’s Diner has a history that spans decades and states. Originally built in 1948 in New Jersey, it moved twice before finding its forever home in Charlotte. Rescued from abandonment, restored with care, and reopened with passion, this diner is more than a restaurant—it’s a living piece of history that continues to bring people together.

In 2005, Mattie discovered an old diner sitting on blocks in a car lot. It had survived floods and years of neglect, but its charm remained. With a vision and determination, he relocated it to Charlotte, where he spent years restoring every detail. The diner reopened in 2010, bringing back the warmth and character of a true American classic.

A New Chapter, Same Classic Charm

A New Chapter, Same Classic Charm
After five years of serving Charlotte, the diner had to close in 2015. But its story didn’t end there. In 2022, Mattie and his partners gave it new life in the Plaza Shamrock neighborhood. With expanded seating, a renovated space, and the same beloved retro feel, the diner is once again a go-to spot for great meals and memories.
